You can also obtain a railroad track anvil from most Japanese tool suppliers without difficulty. Shouldn't be too expensive.

Japan woodworker has one, but does anyone else?

Thanks Chris! The price on that is about $31....much more reasonable. I contacted Mandaraya so hopefully we can communicate.

There is another type of anvil you might want to consider, the triangular anvil sankaku-kana-toko (三角金床):
They are about 3x the price of the anvil type however.

Oh cool....does it have a stake on the bottom for driving in to a stump? I've seen a 'merican version of this one, but with hard edges that I would have to relieve.

San-kaku means triangle - triangular in this case, referring to the pointy shape. Yes, you mortise the stump and then fit the anvil's point down in.
