Craftsmanship in Wood

Thanks for all that info; it's very interesting. I bought this plane on ebay already in this dai, which has a mark which appears to be Inomoto-san's, and don't really see any sign of a different use.
Makes me wonder though... I doubt those makings are there for no reason. It's so cool to learn this stuff.
