Can someone give me some advice where to buy japanese tools in europe ?
I do know about some american and japanese online stores but the shipping costs and the Dutch customs double the prices of the tools.
I know about Dictum and Fine Tools in Germany but i do not know if their tools are ok.
As a beginner on japanese tools i do not want the expensive premium tools but i do want some that last a few years and give decent results.
the kind of tools i am talking about are chisels, saws and kanna.
And another question : what is the best size kanna to begin with ?
I really hope someone can advice me on this .

Hi Jury,

finetools and Dictum sell both good tools and have good Service too.
I have the Standard HIKOZA chisels of finetools and they do a great Job since years.
There was no reason for me yet to by more expensive ones.
There is also Magma tools in Austria selling japanese tools.
Especially their saws of Nakaya are of good Quality.

Regards
Alexander

Generally, the 'best' size of kanna depends upon what sort of things you are making. If you are making small lanterns, for example, planes in the 24~54mm range would by more typical. If you are working large timbers, then 70mm and up.

Planing slim pieces is better with a slim plane; planing wide boards is better with a wider plane.
