Braces

My latest job is building these braces for a commercial project. My milling partner and i milled the timber and now i am detailing the material. The braces are structural hence the bearing housings. The last project done for these developers saw me making the braces with no housings in order to save time and money ( developers demand), now i get to go back and bolster those braces at the developers cost. So in the blue building is housed a legal " medicinal " marajuana factory. So, there i am chiselling away all day to pungent smell of these plants. I guess it's no different from working next to a brewery or distillery. I wonder if you can be affected by those inhalents? Well, so far the measurements have worked out correctly so things must be okay. There's the latest in my career for what it's worth. John

It looks like a pleasant outdoor workspace, smell not withstanding.

Are you resisting the urge to feel some schadenfreude towards the cost cutting developers?

Are you lag-bolting these units or mounting them onto threaded studs? I'm wondering how you are going to place the bolt into the second hole up from the bottom, given that the lower end of the brace looks in the way (?). Am I missing something?

Okay, will do Derek. The engineer requested three locations for. 5/8" ready rod to tie the braces to the framing in back. Top and bottom holes should be a breeze, however, those carpenters had better be accurate with their layout frrom the inside. Also, there are five of these braces sharing about a 2500lb load i believe. John

Well that makes sense to use Redi-rod to fasten them to the wall. Will the fasteners (nuts and washers) be left exposed or ? I don't see any counterbores, so I guess they are not recessed..

Yes i counter sunk for the washer and nut then plan to cut a plug to fill that void. John

So this leg of the job complete. There will be some more work here in the near future. Will post some pics when the braces get fastened. John
