How about a framed floor lamp, or andon?

Here's a few examples of floor-mount andon:

Andon are also employed as a wall-mounted entry lamp for a front door, so that's another project possibility.

Seems to me that making an andon satisfies requests to make shōji and furniture, to not involve angled joinery, and a complaint about material requirements for the projects being too onerous. Comments? concerns?

Sounds good and they look great. I will try and do this one in parallel to the carpentry drawing work.

The ideas presented so far look great .

For the next project I would prefer something that would lean heavily towards the use of hand tools not requiring electricity ; ) like in the videos below ...... building something like this would be great

Looks like a good project. A hanging or wall mounted lamp would also work for me.

An andon sounds like a good project to me.
I've been wanting to do one.

Allrighty then, I'll design a suitable project. I've got a lot of work on the plate for this coming week, so I probably won't have anything for you until around Christmas. I guess it will be like a present then?

Okay, there's a basic choice to be made as to whether this is meant to stand on the floor, and hence is on the larger size, or is meant to stand on a side table or desk, in which case it is on the smaller side. Both are intended to be relatively light in weight and easily portable. Before I move ahead with the design details, would members care to chime in as far as which size they would prefer?
