Glad to hear you got to go ahead for it. I'm hoping they're okay with you bloging it as I would like to follow along.

Re: Tenshin-en Gate at the MFA
I haven't heard a definitive answer yet in regards to blogging, however I don't think it will be a problem.
I am waiting for the first purchase order to be produced so that the ball can get rolling. Looks like it could happen by the end of this week.
The logs I will look at are 40' long and up to 4' thick at the butt end!

Re: Tenshin-en Gate at the MFA
Purchase order was issued today, and the ball is finally rolling!!
I've booked a ticket to Oregon for next week and will be going to check out the logs. I'm buying a shaper too!
It's actually happening!
(can you tell I'm more than a little excited? )

Congratulations Chris!
I couldn't be more happy for you. Will you be able to blog about it?
Let's see those logs...

Chris, is it true?
Has your chance to make a complex truly authentic Japanese structure been cruelly scuttled again?

Re: Tenshin-en Gate at the MFA
Well, a kabukimon is a totally authentic piece of Japanese architecture, but it is a poor design in light of the fact that the wood takes a beating exposed to the weather and thus they don't last very long. So, I'm not especially enthused abut building one, but I'm glad to have work at the same time....
