Craftsmanship in Wood

Thanks for the pics Chris. I enjoy the aged pics more than the originals (not to detract from them). It's nice to see the joints hold strong in green, weathered wood while developing an aged grey 'patina'.

Wood can be beautiful in many ways.

Also, I look forward to seeing where the 2nd lantern leads.

Me too! I mean, the fresh lantern was nice, but now it has such... Depth? Character? I wish I was more poetic.

What type of glue did you use for the patch on the square trellis? It's held up well considering that a joint was cut through it.

Also, what was that joint on the rails of the pyramidal trellis? Had not seen that joint used before on this blog.

It is good to see how things age out in the weather, especially when it's a good result.

I can't remember what I used, though it was likely Titebond III

Titebond III has held up well for me outdoors as well. I have a table made in Padauk that has been outside, uncovered for 6~ years now, the joinery is fairly plain and glued together with titebond III.

While it might have been Titebond III, it might also have been 5-minute epoxy. Either would work fine - I just can't remember what I used.

How's the Padauk weathering?

Holds up very well. I initially used a finish on it, but that finish peeled off within a year so I left it bare, after going grey it's held up without issue.
