Chris, hate to be a pita (the phrase that often precedes being a pita  ) but could you increase the max photo size to whatever size by 2500 pixels wide? Maybe just for photos hosted off site?
I prefer cheese pitas myself but I just updated the max width for thumbnails, which I'm not certain is correct. Currently, our max image dimensions aren't set so there shouldn't be any limitations on the uploaded size. Let me know if anything changed for you, if not, I'll do some more digging. Perhaps image size is being controlled by our newly installed theme.

To everyone on the board, please let me know if I blew something up 8-)

On that topic: I've just become aware that one photo hosting site (photobucket) that used to be free is now considering charging people exorbitant fees ($400 / year [1]) to use photos they've uploaded on third party websites, so there has been some concern on at least one other place that photos will go missing either when they start blocking less popular sites or if they run themselves out of business.

I don't know if photobucket was used for posting here, but I imagine it should be a fairly simple problem for somebody with access to the site database to find out.

[1] As a forum poster it is exorbitant, perhaps if I was an ebay selling or other kind of business perhaps not. I guess the problem here is that the low volume-low cost users are getting court up in the net designed for the higher volume commercial users.

Im using my blog as a host now, no longer using Photobucket.

Still get the same error that the image can't be more than 1000 pixels wide.

Isn't a 1000 pixel width about ideal for most computer monitors? Any wider and you have to scroll sideways to see the whole picture. 1000 pixels is what I size all my images to, both here and on my blog.

What are you using to resize?

Both my blog and mac seem to automatically adjust them to fit the screen but otherwise store them in full size.

I used to use an image resizer for Mac called 'Small Image II', but this seems to be no longer available.

In recent months when wanting to resize an image I simply open the image in Preview, then click on 'Tools', then 'Adjust size...". It's a little tedious because of having to do the images one-by-one instead of as a batch, however it works perfectly. Maybe there is a way to resize images by the batch though on a Mac...

Ah, thank you! Much appreciated. I've gotten a few complaints on my blog about image sizes (being too large) so maybe it is time to resize them first.

FYI, Preview can batch resize images:
