Mitutoyo no longer seem to offer a double square, however I noticed Lee Valley is selling a double square, and I am 99% sure it is actually made by Mitutoyo as it is just identical to what Mitutoyo used to offer. Stock shape is the same, knurling on the fixing nut is the same, same satin rule - SAME!
Here's the Mitutoyo product:

At $39, you can't go wrong.

Re: Mitutoyo Double Square
Interesting,
I've been looking at US based tool stores thinking it's about time I did one of my occasional tool orders - get a bunch of things to bring the unit cost of shipping down. Layout tools are always a good option. ( In fact I was thinking of grabbing a few extra carpentry squares - the more of the course I do, the more I realise what an incredible tool it is)
The Lee Valley site says they're made in the US, does that preclude a rebadging of a Mitutoyo product?
In any case is the advertised accuracy the same as the Japanese product - 0.001" per inch?

Re: Mitutoyo Double Square
Look at the Mitutoyo square picture closely - you'll see "Made in USA" engraved on the blade. Mitutoyo has plants all over the world. I have stuff from them made in japan, Brazil, Mexico, USA, England - the quality is the same. Never purchased a poor product from Mitutoyo. The Lee Valley site says they're made in the US, does that preclude a rebadging of a Mitutoyo product?

Re: Mitutoyo Double Square
Chris and Derek,
I am still here and well. Traveling and other things have taken priority lately, as well as my shop has become more storage than workshop which I need to rectify. I'll make a concerted effort to get reengaged on the roof model and bring it up to date.
As to the double square a third offering is by PEC Tools, a USA company, and may well be the manufacturer of both of the above squares. The casting looks the same. Several of the posters on popular message boards use PEC products and have good things to say about them. I don't own PEC products so I can't vouch for them. My tools come from my toolmaking years and are Starrett but looking at PEC offerings the Sliding T-Bevel looks like a good addition to my tool kit for laying out this work that we are doing.
Here is a link to PEC Sliding T-Bevel.
http://www.productsengineering.com/misc/index.html If you search Amazon for double squares you will get several offerings from different suppliers at different prices of PEC.
Here is a direct link to PEC and the double square page showing a 6" blade but the have 4" as well in a variety of graduations.
The below screen shots are from PEC.

Interesting! I hadn't heard of that company before, but it sure looks like the same square. I called them and they confirmed that they supply Lee Valley.

Re: Mitutoyo Double Square
Having the availability of Metric or English/Metric graduations makes the PEC more appealing. Most of my Starrett blades are 16R graduated but some are Metric.

You can get deep discounts on 'cosmetic seconds' of PEC's lineup at this site: http://store.harryepstein.com/c/Squares.html
I haven't bought from them yet, so can't speak to the experience.

Re: Mitutoyo Double Square
I've been happy with the PEC double square I bought - a good product.
Tom - pleased you're enjoying the forum and its members. A diverse bunch of psychos if you ask me, but we all seem to get along somehow.
