Miter Checking caliper

Wed Jul 29, 2015 8:23 pm

I've been wanting to get a large Mitutoyo caliper for a long time, however they are normally priced in the stratosphere once you go beyond 12".

Recently I came across a used 1000mm version in Germany with some cool add-on parts to enable it to gauge mitered pieces:

It's a modest price, at 320 Euros, which is a fraction of the price new. It looks to be in good shape and I'm hoping the seller will respond to my expression of interest.

Pretty cool that it has a base. That will be awesome for big joinery.

Exactly. And the miter attachments can be swung out of the way so it can be used a regular caliper.

I'm thinking this could get tucked into the same crate as the milling machine, to eliminate the shipping cost.

Nice, that saves a bit I'm sure with what the gauge must weigh.

At first the seller told me it "wasn't possible" to export to the US, and he only did business in Germany, however I pointed out that I don't need him to export the tool, only send it on to the dealer from whom i am buying the milling machine. And I asked my friend Werner, who lives in the south of Germany, to get involved so now it looks like i will be able to acquire that caliper. I'm psyched!

The waiting will be the hard part -- that, and getting the milling machine into my shop!

Very nice Chris.
I've wondering about the 100 cm/1000 mm exchange between you and Brian. I don't understand your mistake.
