Resource Conservation Technology makes an acrylic polymer emulsion for coating their roofing fabric. It would be ideal for coating end-grain for outdoor woodwork. It is incredibly adhesive, tough, elastic and the white is WHITE! I have used it for roofing and it lasts. Do wear gloves and old pants, because it takes a long time to wear off.
