Re: Bed Build
Brian,
I'm loving your build threads. Whilst not having a sense of how the whole bed will look, I can see the joinery is first class! You won't regret choosing the best quality joinery options when the piece is in use.
Keep up the great work (and the sharing)
regards
Derek

Re: Bed Build
Thanks for the kind words!
The end result should be a very simple looking structure. The outside rails, which i"m constructing now will be the main visible component.

Re: Bed Build
I ended up using one of my 3" wide boards for the center rail, hence I had to build another with rough stock on hand.
Cutting and checking flat and twist free faces for references to use for thicknessing;

Final thicknessing next time.
Finished one side, I'll walk through with detail photos of the cut out on the next round of photos.
Half of the frame is now together, and I have removed the center supports to facilitate the side rail fitting. The will be cut to length and test fitted after the legs are installed on the frame.

Re: Bed Build
My western planes perform well, I dimension from rough stock and can leave a tearout free finish.. If I bought a Kanna it would be primarily a finish plane, and my current finish plane performs well.
My only complaint of western planes is that the blades suck.

And no, I won't be sending you one.
A lot of people will adopt Japanese saws and chisels but shy away from kanna, and yet they are the central tool in Japanese woodworking. It's a curious thing.
Why the 'tip-toeing' into Japanese saws?
Don't mean to grill you or anything, just curious.
Re: Bed Build
I imagine it likely that you have made the same observation previously with your western chisels - that the blades suck - and you clearly have made the move in a big way to Japanese chisels. Wouldn't it also be likely the case that similar improvements would come about via a move to kanna? My only complaint of western planes is that the blades suck.
